How It Works

Both input methods lead to one selected HEX color and the same five-color matching palette.

Choose a color

1. Enter HEX: Type a 3- or 6-digit HEX value, with or without the # symbol, then select Apply Color.
2. Pick from Image: Upload or drag in a PNG, JPG, WebP, or GIF. Click or tap a point on the image to sample that pixel.
3. Use the result: Copy the selected HEX value or any of the five palette matches.

How the five palette matches are chosen

The selected HEX value is converted temporarily into hue, saturation, and lightness so the tool can rotate the hue while preserving the original color’s intensity and brightness. The displayed results are converted back to HEX.

• Complement: 180° around the color wheel for the strongest contrast.
• Analogous −30° and +30°: nearby colors that usually feel related and calm.
• Triadic +120° and +240°: two evenly spaced colors that add variety while remaining balanced.

Use the compact Standard, Darker, and Lighter controls beside the palette help link. Darker preserves the five hue relationships while reducing lightness; Lighter preserves them while increasing lightness.

Very dark, very light, or low-saturation colors may produce matches that look similar because hue has less visible effect near black, white, and gray.

Tips for entering HEX colors

• A 6-digit HEX code uses two digits each for red, green, and blue: #RRGGBB.
• A 3-digit code such as #06e expands to #0066ee.
• Use the large selected-color preview to judge whether white or dark elements will remain visible on the color.
• Test important brand and interface colors in their real context before publishing.

Tips for picking colors from images

• Use a high-resolution image when you need a precise sample from a small object.
• Click a few nearby pixels—photographs often contain compression, texture, highlights, and shadows that change the result.
• For a representative subject color, sample a midtone rather than the brightest highlight or darkest shadow.
• Transparent pixels are interpreted against white because standard 6-digit HEX does not include transparency.

Image privacy

Your image is read locally by your browser for color sampling. The tool does not intentionally upload the image to Web Host Pro. Clearing or leaving the page removes the working image from the tool.
